Are you the Freshman International Student currently studying in an
expensive University in United States and thinking of transferring to a
Community college for a 2- Year Associate Degree but at the same time afraid of
losing your status or you think you will not be able to go back to India in the
same semester? Then this is for you……..
Every one of us knows that studying Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
in Universities of United States is expensive; rather I should say it’s
burdensome and out of reach to most of the families in India (current dollar
$$$ exchange rate is over 65 rs). If you are thinking of studying your college
and further education in U.S. then keep in mind it’s a whole lot of money and
for so many of us a heavy debt. The most Peculiar and commonly used alternative for this obvious problem is transfer to
the cheaper and affordable 2 – year Community Colleges which offers your program
of Interest and also satisfies your F-1 Visa status requirement. So, NO NEED
TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING!
Many Students believe that they will have to study in the 4- year
colleges to be considered as an F-1 Student but they are on an incorrect path
as Community Colleges which offer associate
degree in your major can issue your SEVIS in the same way as its done in the
Universities. The only difference is that after gaining associate degree you
will need to transfer to 4- year college to achieve your bachelor’s. The average
time needed to complete your Bachelors after gaining the associate degree is
about 2 or 2-1/2 years and according to surveys and researches, the success rate
of a student with associate degree is almost same or higher than the other
bachelors degree seekers. For Students who think that Community Colleges are
not good choice for International Students. I think it’s a wrong belief and you
should not go above the financial capacity of your family and do not create
burden for them as this step is not going to affect your Studies, Visa or
Future in anyway.
One more suggestion to the Students with no problem of Finance, You
can go to the Community Colleges if you wish but stay in Universities as its
better and reliable.
At last, A general advise to all the Students
with a confused 2- sided brains, There is nothing wrong in Community colleges.
Go there if its necessary and important.
