Having a Bachelors Degree in Nursing...Want to pursue further studies in United States?

There are various degree options for students wishing to study nursing in the U.S. at the graduate level.

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree prepares nurses for leadership, advanced clinical practice specialties and doctoral study.

The PhD degree prepares nurses for academia or research, while the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree prepares nurses to develop competencies and attain leadership positions in clinical practice, administration and translational research. Additionally, there are also joint degrees which include MSN/MBA, MSN/MPH, and MSN/JD.

Admissions to accredited nursing schools are competitive, and students are advised to look up individual programmes for eligibility and admission requirements.

NursingCAS (https://portal.nursingcas.org/) is an online application service for applying to nursing programmes in the U.S.

Foreign educated nurses who wish to practice in the U.S. may require completion of a certification program by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) prior to the NCLEX – RN.

For more information, you may access the website http://www.cgfns.org. NCLEX – RN is used by state boards of nursing to assist in making licensure decisions.

It is advisable to check state specifications as licensure requirements vary across states in the U.S.
